MERLOT International Conference (MIC) Online Submission Overview

Timeline

  • Proposal submission deadline: Extended to February 23, 2009!
  • Target date for acceptance notification: late Spring
  • Target date for presenters and co-presenters program information: mid April
  • Target date for publishing MIC09 program online: late May

All proposals need to be submitted through the online system. When submitting your proposal online, you will be asked to “Create an Account” and to complete a “MIC Conference Profile”. Once you complete these steps, you will be able to “Submit Proposals.”

As you develop your response to the Call for Papers here are some helpful tips.

  • When developing your Title choose key words that describe the presentation content.  (The system will limit you to 120 characters.)
  • When developing your Abstract for Review make sure you identify how you plan to engage the audience. This can be accomplished through a number of techniques including small group moments, interactive question and answers, audience contribution, interactive handouts, games, partner exercises etc.
  • When submitting your Abstract for Review, you will have the option to have it considered for one of the Conference Tracks. If none of these tracks is appropriate for your proposal, select "no track".
  • When submitting your proposal online, you will be asked to choose a Session Type and an alternate session type. Session types include:

Regular sessions                Poster presentations
Panel sessions                   Hands-on workshops
Learning Circles                 

  • When developing your Abstract for Review, a good abstract will:
    • be concisely written, accurate, self‑contained, and coherent
    • use a clear and direct writing style with active voice rather than passive
    • describe who would benefit from attending this session
    • give a clear statement of what participants will learn from this presentation
    • list what materials—slides, handouts, web links—will be provided during the presentation, posted on the conference web site, or submitted to the conference proceedings
    • give participants a good idea of the content and format of your presentation
    • persuade the proposal reviewers and conference attendees that you are going to present something unique, valuable and engaging

  • When developing your abstract for publication make sure you check your work for grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Keep the abstract short and to the point. Since a broad audience will view your abstract you should spell out all acronyms. Also keep in mind that all information submitted through the online system will be used verbatim to generate the web agenda and the printed MIC09 Program. Please make sure that your information is accurate and carefully edited. This includes information about you and your co-presenters.
